February Peace Practice
“Be peace. Allow every situation to take you deeper into your own sense of inner serenity.”
...A Zen saying
The opportunity is before us to practice peace by simply pausing before we respond. Stop reacting. It can be within a breath that our thoughts are transformed skillfully into right speech and right action. Do nothing until you are convinced that what you are about to say is an improvement on the silence or the mood. “Even the wisest of us get angry, but the wise wait to speak or act until the fire of anger is cooled.” (Allan Lokos) Ask yourself if you are handling the situation as the person you want to be. Truly allow every situation to take you deeper into the true nature of peace.
Peace be with you,,

February 2012 Pastors’ Message
Spiritual Life
We believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in us and that all people are incarnations of the One Spirit.
I have a great fascination for two aspects of the spirituality of India: 1) They have the most ancient of all written spiritual texts, and 2) They have some of the most profound teachers (gurus) with extraordinary abilities, quite foreign to the west. Add to this the fact that here is the source of many of the key concepts of the Science of Mind, and it just makes me want to know more.
Ernest Holmes was very influenced by the writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson. He attributed about 30% of the Science of Mind philosophy to him. Emerson was very influenced by the sacred texts of India, which had just been translated into English in his day. Of them he said, “In all nations there are minds which incline to dwell on the conception of the fundamental Unity….This tendency finds its highest expression in the religious writing of the East, and chiefly in the Indian Scriptures; in the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Vishnu Purana.”
In our studies of the Science of Mind, we explore the essays of Emerson and the lectures of Thomas Troward (who spent most of his life in India). Holmes attributed another 30% of the Science of Mind philosophy to him. But our accredited studies do not include the sacred texts of India, the source of many of the core concepts incorporated into our teaching from these two great thinkers. The Bhagavad Gita even uses the words “Universal Mind,” our favorite words for God.
We have a great opportunity to learn more about this important connection the first weekend in February. We have the privilege of hosting a man who has made this study his passion. Dave DeLuca has written two books to make this ancient wisdom accessible to a modern audience. He will be offering his wisdom in two formats: a longer, two-day seminar on Friday night and Saturday, and a shorter, three-hour seminar on Sunday afternoon. Be sure to sign up right away to reserve your space!
Love and Blessings,
Judith and Bob
