The Power of Eight: Monthly Prayer Groups

  • Center for Spiritual Living, Redding (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

As Dr. Ernest Holmes wrote, “A prayer meeting should be the most exciting thing we could do. It should unleash all of the creative ability and imagination we have, because at a prayer meeting where people who believe get together, such a power ought to be such that an angel chorus would sing!” It’s true, there is a Power greater than we are. It is creative and responds to our beliefs, and especially to the intent of a group. Beginning in September, we invite you to join in a monthly prayer group, based on the scientific research in Lynne McTaggart’s book, The Power of Eight. Dr. Holmes knew, and now research proves, that when individuals in a group focus their intention together on a single goal, a powerful, dynamic energy emerges that can heal long-standing conditions, mend fractured relationships, and even rekindle a sense of purpose in one’s life. The monthly prayer groups will meet 11⁄2 to 2 hours, on a date and time to be determined by the host and the facilitator.

There are four opportunities for you to participate:
❖ Host a monthly prayer group of eight in your home (the eight includes yourself and a
facilitator)
❖ Facilitate a monthly group meeting (facilitator training in August)
❖ Coach and support those who facilitate group meetings (training in August)
❖ Sign up to be in a group of your choice (signups in August)
Interested in facilitating one of these powerful groups or being a coach to facilitators?

Sunday, December 2nd
12:30 to 3:00 PM, in the Sanctuary
$25 per Person

It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up. – Eckhart Tolle, author

For many, success can feel unattainable, as though others were given a secret that we ourselves were never blessed with. However, according to best-selling author, serial entrepreneur and investor, May McCarthy, SUCCESS IS A SYSTEM, NOT A SECRET! May will share a definable, practical system that you can put to use every day to achieve success in relationships, career, finances, health, personal pursuits and virtually any other aspect of life.

Specifically, you will learn:

  • To utilize the power of gratitude to become magnetic to your desires.

  • Create powerful, practical and achievable goals for all aspects of your life.

  • Enable your spiritual intuition to be a powerful partner in manifesting the life you want.

  • Untangle from the fears, doubts, beliefs and behaviors that are keeping you from abundance.

Since 1982, May has founded and grown seven successful companies in a variety of industries to as large as $100 million in annual revenues, and she has worked for several Fortune 500 companies. Her success formulas have been shared worldwide at dozens of events, on television, in print and on radio.

THE TAO OF WATERCOLOR: FINDING FOCUS and SELECTION USING PHOTOGRAPHS
With Shari Windom
Wednesdays, October 3rd through November 7th
10:00 AM to 12:30 PM OR 2:00 to 4:30 PM, in Social Hall
$135 in Advance or $23 per Class Meeting

One secret to watercolor success is to place the character of the painting over the appearance or likeness to the subject. That is—the painting must be admired for itself, standing alone from its inspiration. Learning to interpret your subject with a painter’s eye, and to render the painting expressively, requires the ‘art of seeing.’ In this session, we will work from photographs and learn to create successful compositions from this reference material. Using photos as reference material is a boon for busy painters, yet the problem is that a form of selection has already been done for you. The artist must decide what to leave in, what to leave out and what is missing. Some paintings can be composed by combining several photographs to create a more cohesive composition. Essentially, watercolor medium is so beautiful in itself, independent of any subject it portrays, that we have the option to keep compositions simple to draw attention to iridescent washes, vibrant brushstrokes, the wet-in-set blends and the overlaying of tints. We will engage our painter’s eye and skill to turn photos into original works of art. Students are encouraged to bring their own photographs, and the instructor will provide photos for class studies. Guidance is provided to us by the philosophical framework of the Tao Te Ching, along with inspiration from other artists who share their creative journeys. Pre-registration is required. For additional information, contact the instructor at shariwindom@yahoo.com or at 530-691-9115. Download the flyer.

This six-week session requires completion of at least one previous session with the instructor, or some watercolor experience (requiring approval by instructor). Session V is the culmination of a year-long introduction to watercolor painting. The curriculum is a continuation of developing basic skills, and includes demonstrations, study, practice, and personal assistance. A review and deeper conceptual understanding of brush work, water control, color and pigments, value gradation, application (mingling and glazing), contrast and perspective and introduction to composition will be included. Emphasis will be placed on painting the various elements of landscape. The five essentials of the ancient philosophical framework of the Tao Te Ching for living a creative life: centering, intention, playfulness, balance, harmony and flow, along with inspiration from other artists, will guide us on this creative journey. Pre-registration is required. For additional information, contact the instructor at shariwindom@yahoo.com or at 530-691-9115. Download the flyer.

Christian D. Larson was one of Ernest Holmes’ least-heard-of yet very influential teachers. Through his profound words, he shows the reader how to apply the principles of Truth to everyday life in a way that brings forth the Master within. Join in a contemplative journey based on Christian D. Larson’s The Pathway of Roses. This class will allow each participant to delve into the author’s more mystical writings, while at the same time, learn to apply Truth principles in all areas of life. Because of its practical nature and its focus on the daily practice of Contemplative Meditation, this class will serve in boosting your success in any other class or activity you engage in. Students are asked to bring a water bottle and journal, and to wear comfortable clothing. Don’t miss this opportunity to jump-start your growth and deepen your experience of the Divine.
