Rumi: An 800-Year-Old Mystic Poet and Sufi Master Who Is One of the Most Popular Poets in America

Rumi’s Caravan, the longest-running and most popular poetry ensemble in the North Bay, brings to life the rich tradition of ecstatic poetry, featuring the mystical poems of Rumi, Hafiz, Rilke, Mary Oliver and others, recited by heart and performed in the ecstatic tradition. Now in its 19th year, Rumi’s Caravan is a 100-percent, volunteer-run group of poets and community leaders who believe in the power of poetry to enlighten the human condition. Its mission is to awaken delight in the heart and to restore the soul of the world through ecstatic poetry and music. The longevity of Rumi’s Caravan is directly related to Rumi himself. “Why is the 13th-century Persian mystic, Jellaludin Rumi, the best-selling poet in 21st-century America?” asks Producer and Co-Founder Larry Robinson. “Probably because his free-wheeling, God-intoxicated poems cut to the heart of the human experience, transcending all dogma or ideas of wrong-doing and right-doing,” says Robinson, answering his own question. Artistic Director Kay Crista explains the popularity of Rumi’s Caravan this way: “With ecstatic poetry, a potency of feeling slips in with the words, bypasses the brain, pierces the heart, and enters directly into the soul … and we are uplifted, effortlessly, like grace,” she says. Visit www.rumiscaravan.com for more information. Lavish attire is encouraged. Download the flyer.

$5 Materials Fee per Person (payable to Ava Malinovsky)
Limited to 20 People

No experience is required!  Learn the fundamentals to make beautiful, one-of-a-kind, acrylic paint pours.  We will create two (2) separate pieces of art on 8 x 10 canvases. Paint pouring is a form of abstract art that uses acrylic paints with a runny (fluid) consistency.

The acrylic paints react with each other when combined with a pouring medium and silicone, to create interesting and visually organic motifs.  Fluid acrylics can be used on many types of substrates and in many different forms such as pouring, dripping, swirling and many other effects. Fluid art opens up a lot of possibilities and is definitely worth exploring. All supplies are provided, including canvases, gloves, paint, etc., for an extra fee of $5, payable to Ava Malinovsky.

PLEASE WEAR PROPER CLOTHING TO PAINT IN! Register early as seating is limited. Deadline to register is February 27th at 5:00 PM. Open to all 16 years and up. Contact Ava at 530-515-3536 or amalin57@gmail.com with questions. Download the flyer.

THE HOPE VAN FOOD TEAM WELCOMES YOU!

THE HOPE VAN FOOD TEAM WELCOMES YOU!

THE HOPE VAN FOOD TEAM WELCOMES YOU!

Join in our monthly community event offering meals to the homeless who come to the Hope Van for medical attention and other services.

It may not be widely known that we have an awesome Seva Team that is in service out in the community one day a month. We have a lot of team spirit, love what we do and can always use more members, so we are inviting you to join us. I am referring to the Hope Van Food Team who serves a meal on the 4th Friday of every month to folks who are experiencing homelessness. One of the best aspects of this is that we serve alongside friends from two other faith communities: United Methodist and All Saints Episcopal. There are folks from other churches who serve on the other Fridays of the month. So it is an Interfaith effort…so important in today’s world!

The location for all of this is near the Social Services office on Breslauer, off of Highway 273 where we meet no later than 8:30 AM on the 4th Friday of each month and set up next to the Hope Van. As a Team Member, you have the opportunity of providing a dish such as a casserole, soup, spaghetti, fruit, hard boiled eggs, muffins, power bars, etc. Those who come for their appointments and others who just walk, often several miles, have a meal and get a bag lunch. In return, we get the joy of feeding our hungry brothers and sisters, offering many blessings and receiving much gratitude.  Each church is responsible for providing its own supplies such as plates, cups, coffee, sugar, creamer, disposable eating utensils, lunch bags, gloves for food handling, hot cocoa, milk, etc. So if preparing or offering food is not for you but you would like to contribute supplies or money for them, that would help greatly!

We currently need to raise funds to purchase canopies to shelter us and our operation during the rainy weather. On February 24th, we are sponsoring a Bake Sale to benefit the Hope Van Food Team. We need baked goods for our sale to offer for purchase after the Sunday services, so let us know if you can offer that. There are many ways to help our Team! To get more information and/or to join our team please call Rev. Pam Sanchez at 515-0347, Gillian Trumbull at 241-3900 or Hazel Hughes at 223-6208. You may also email Pam at pams96001@gmail.com.

Saturday, March 16th
9:30 AM: Coffee and Bagels
10 AM to 4:00 PM: Workshop
$40.00 per Woman (includes a simple lunch)

This day is dedicated to meeting one another in our heart center.  Women have been coming forward, telling their stories, and revealing their suffering, abuse, and disappointments.  We share common threads in our stories.  We gather on this day to bring healing and empowerment to women.  We open our hearts to one another and learn to support one another through the challenges of life.

The Divine Feminine recognizes that the heart of every being is filled with a powerful Grace that endures all things.  For the woman, this is particularly important to remember as we find our way through abuse and challenges in our past. Kristin Miller and Kelly Rizzi team up to share powerful tools that have proven to help individuals recover from trauma.  But this is also a day to learn how to support one another in those painful moments when another woman shares her heartbreak and we are at a loss as to what we can do to help.  It is the woman’s nature to want to help and comfort.  We come together in this gathering to support one another and empower ourselves moving forward.  Together we share a boundless love and feel secure in our life.  Please share this opportunity with others and bring your friends.  We have great work to do together.

Kristin Miller, Ph. D., Lic. Psychologist, DCEP, TFT, TTT, Matrix Re-imprinting, and EMDR Certified, is a Psychologist who has specialized in the treatment of stress and intergenerational trauma for 30 years. She has been actively working with three international humanitarian committees to bring easy to use, non-verbal, emotional regulation and trauma/stress, management skills to our communities through the web and live trainings (krisjohnmill@gmail.com).

Kelly Rizzi is the ACE Coordinator and Director of School and District Support for Shasta County Office of Education. Kelly helps schools understand the impact of trauma and methods to manage the trauma response. Kelly has also served in our greater educational community as the Principal of Rother Elementary School for five years, in addition to eleven years as a teacher for Enterprise School District. She is a member of Center for Spiritual Living, Redding, and was a Youth Group Advisor with her husband, Christian, for several years.

“I have tremendous gratitude for the brave, passionate women who walked the wisdom path before me, and shed their light on it for all of the women who wish to travel a similar path, too. It is a journey to awaken your ‘great woman spirit’ this is well worth taking.” — Ora Nadrich

Please bring a short bio or story of your favorite female spiritual mentor. We are often influenced and inspired by a woman in our lives who models the divine feminine. Often there are many women who have had a spiritual effect on you and awakened you to a deeper sense of the sacred. But think about it and hone your story to one in particular. We will share our stories and end the evening with ritual that blesses our journey. Bring a friend with you and enjoy the conversation as it unfolds and inspires you!

FROM METAPHYSICS TO MYSTICISM: ONE LAW
Non-Certificated Advanced Spirituality Class
With Diana Johnson, RScP
Wednesdays, January 9th to March 13th
1:00 to 4:00 PM, in the Light Source Village
$135 per Person in Advance by Noon on 12/30; $155 Thereafter

Please join Diana Johnson, RScP, for a journey from Metaphysics to Mysticism, beginning with a study of the life of Ernest Holmes and his most influential teachers. This non-certificated class is intended as an advanced spiritual study for those interested in Spiritual Development. It is also a wonderful way for the licensed Practitioner to deepen and expand her/his study. It is the first of three 10-week classes to be offered in the coming year, each building on the last. The ideal would be that those who begin this class would choose to continue their studies throughout the year, forming a close-knit support and personal growth circle. Taking the first section in no way requires students to continue. This first 10-week section will be based on the work of Henry Drummond, one of Dr. Holmes’s earliest influences. In the late 1800s, Henry Drummond was teaching the integration of Natural Law and Spiritual Law, and his teachings were a part of the household reading in the Holmes household. Also, a prevalent part of Ernest’s early education was a progressive form of Christianity that permeated his work throughout his career. We will be delving into some of the Metaphysics embedded in the Bible and how this impacted The Science of Mind. Download the flyer.

Wednesdays, January 9th to February 20th
10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
OR
2:00 to 4:30 PM, in the Social Hall
$135 per Person in Advance or $23 per Person per Class Meeting + Cost of Art Supplies
Minimum of 4 Students – Maximum of 10 Students (per section)

There is a treasure-trove of subjects for watercolorists hidden in the quiet corners of nature. In our haste, we may pass by and not consider the countless small, magical subjects--the delicate tracery of weeds and grasses, the shapes and colors of wildflowers nestled among stones, the textural patterns of tree trunks or a grouping of small, colorful rocks. The possibilities are endless and waiting patiently for us! These intimate glimpses of natural beauty provide a whole range of subject matter. In this six-week session we will explore a close-up glimpse of nature and practice a variety of techniques and compositional possibilities. This session requires basic knowledge and skills of watercolor painting. Photos and template for class studies will be provided by the instructor, and students are encouraged to bring their own photos and reference material. Inspirational guidance is provided by the philosophical framework of the Tao Te Ching and from others who share their creative journey. Pre-registration is required. For additional information, contact the instructor at shariwindom@yahoo.com. Download the flyer.

CREATIVE PROCESS IN THE INDIVIDUAL — “ACCESSING YOUR DIVINE CREATIVITY”
Certificated Science of Mind® Class: Consciousness Coursework
With Chris Johnson, RScP
Tuesdays, January 8th through March 12th
1:30 to 4:30 PM, in the Sanctuary
$105 per Person in Advance by Noon on 12/30; $135 Thereafter + Optional $45 Certificate Fee

This eight-week class is based on the metaphysical classic, The Creative Process in the Individual, by Thomas Troward, essentially a sequel to The Edinburgh Lectures. It was written to expand on the personal implications of, and the individual participation in, The Creative Process described so clearly in Troward’s Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science. Thomas Troward was a powerful influence on the philosophy of Ernest Holmes. Ernest used many of Troward’s concepts in the development of The Science of Mind, but there are some differences in their approach to using Creative Law. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast these two approaches and find what most empowers their own spiritual work. Our goal is for students to grow in their ability to personalize the Divine Law of Creation to maximize their expression of Spirit. Chris Johnson, M.A., RScP, is a licensed Prayer Practitioner who also has a Master’s Degree in Teaching. His thirty years of teaching experience and training have given him a firm understanding of how to best structure curriculum so that people are empowered to learn in their own unique way.
