This session requires basic knowledge of watercolor technique. The whole living Earth is sacred. We visit certain places upon the Earth because we feel called to be there, drawn to sit with the murmuring lakes and streams, hear the mysterious whispers of the forest groves, view the exhilarating wonder of mountain peaks or the purity of desert solitude with the expansiveness of mesa and stone risings. We identify with a particular place at a given time because we correspond to a quality of the heart energy of the place—a sort of resonance occurs. In this six-week class, we will explore inwardly the places of our deep connection through a selection of landscape photographs. Acknowledging our preferences, we will render our responses in watercolor paintings. Students are encouraged to bring their own photographs and reference materials will be provided. Students are also encouraged to meditate upon and visit, when possible, their own Earth temples—landscape structures they are sensitive to—places where a particular quality of tenderness, inspiration and protection entered her/his heart. Inspirational guidance is provided by the philosophical framework of the Tao Te Ching, The Sacred Landscape and from others sharing their creative journey. Early registration is recommended.
