The Power of Eight: Monthly Prayer Groups

The Power of Eight: Monthly Prayer Groups

  • Center for Spiritual Living, Redding (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

As Dr. Ernest Holmes wrote, “A prayer meeting should be the most exciting thing we could do. It should unleash all of the creative ability and imagination we have, because at a prayer meeting where people who believe get together, such a power ought to be such that an angel chorus would sing!” It’s true, there is a Power greater than we are. It is creative and responds to our beliefs, and especially to the intent of a group. Beginning in September, we invite you to join in a monthly prayer group, based on the scientific research in Lynne McTaggart’s book, The Power of Eight. Dr. Holmes knew, and now research proves, that when individuals in a group focus their intention together on a single goal, a powerful, dynamic energy emerges that can heal long-standing conditions, mend fractured relationships, and even rekindle a sense of purpose in one’s life. The monthly prayer groups will meet 11⁄2 to 2 hours, on a date and time to be determined by the host and the facilitator.

There are four opportunities for you to participate:
❖ Host a monthly prayer group of eight in your home (the eight includes yourself and a
facilitator)
❖ Facilitate a monthly group meeting (facilitator training in August)
❖ Coach and support those who facilitate group meetings (training in August)
❖ Sign up to be in a group of your choice (signups in August)
Interested in facilitating one of these powerful groups or being a coach to facilitators?

This 10-week course is a loving tribute to Dr. Ernest Holmes and all the wisdom he brought to our world.  The best of Ernest Holmes’s written work is presented, displaying his wisdom as it broadened and deepened over his long writing life.  His writing career spanned over forty years, from the metaphysical classic Creative Mind, written in 1919, to his most mystical work, The Voice Celestial, co-authored with his brother, Fenwicke Holmes, in 1960.  Ernest never stopped exploring and plumbing the depths of Spiritual Truth and this growth is reflected in his works.  He said that he and the philosophy he developed were both “open at the top,” that the study of the Science of Mind and Spirit was a never-ending quest to understand and apply Spiritual Law.  Students will gain a holistic awareness of  Ernest’s thoughts and come to see that many of their modern, topical questions about applying the Science of Mind® were addressed by our founder himself at one time or another.  Join Chris this fall to explore the writings of Ernest Holmes.  Download the PDF flyer.

This moving play is drawn from the diaries, journals and letters of six different women.  They are seen as they grow up, marry, bear children and face being ostracized.  Out of Our Fathers' House is taken entirely from the diaries, journals and letters of the 18th, 19th and 20th century women portrayed in it.  Told through monologues created from the  actual writings of the women, this play is designed as a hypothetical conversation between these ladies who lived at various times over a period of almost two hundred years.  In spite of the differences in their eras, these women are united through the common challenges of their efforts to grow "out of their father's house."  The cast:  Eliza Southgate (1783 –1809)-Schoolgirl; Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815-1902)-Founder of the Women's Suffrage Movement; Maria Mitchell (1818-1889)-Astronomer; "Mother" Mary Jones (1830-1930)-Labor Organizer; Dr. Anna Howard Shaw (1847-1919)-Minister and Doctor; Elizabeth Gertrude Stern (1890-1954)-In the Jewish Ghetto.  Download the PDF flyer.
