PATHWAYS TO HOUSING SUMMER FOOD DRIVE 2025

During the month of July

Pathways to Housing is a Redding based 501(c)3 organization that collaborates with local agencies and other non-profits to house and assist medically fragile homeless individuals. Their primary location is the Hartman House at 1871 Kenyon Drive in Redding. Since its inception in the fall of 2022, Pathways has housed and assisted over 400 separate individuals and provided thousands of healthy, warm meals to those in need in the community. They need food donations! We will have a food bin beginning the first week of July at our Center. It will have a sign with instructions, requesting non-perishable food items (canned and boxed). If you want to donate fresh foods/meats, they have a team who will be happy to pick those up as needed to avoid spoilage. They plan to pick up the food bins during the first week of August. They express deep gratitude for your assistance and collaboration. Please note also that any food donations can be taken to the Hartman House directly. You can also mail check donations mailed to the same address.

MINISTER’S MESSAGE

The Presence

FOR A NEW BEGINNING

In out-of-the-way places of the heart, where your thoughts never think to wander,

This beginning has been quietly forming, waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time, it has watched your desire, feeling the emptiness growing inside you,

noticing how you willed yourself on, still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety and the gray promises that sameness whispered,

heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent, wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled, and out you stepped onto new ground,

your eyes young again with energy and dream, a path of plenitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear, you can trust the promise of this opening;

Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning that is at one with your life’s desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure; hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;

Soon you will be home in a new rhythm, for your soul senses the world that awaits you.

John O’Donohue, “To Bless the Space Between Us”

The moment you awaken to the divinity within you that has been with you always and you surrender to it fully, you are truly alive. You experience Life living in you ‘as’ you. Life, as defined by Ernest Holmes, is “the animated Principle of Being”. You rest in knowing you are always guided and directed through every challenge because you witness life from beyond the superficial understandings and setbacks. You see ‘as the God in you’ sees. Life is happening and you find within you a superpower of Divine Connection that leads you. As you have grown in your spiritual understandings by attending to your spiritual practices and sharing in community, it is time to recognize what you have outgrown and step into being who you truly are at the core.

As we each face our ‘lessons’ in life, there are times we have had to dive deeper to face our actions/reactions.  We found ourselves stalling out because we were outgrowing our habit reactions and responses. They were no longer serving us and we might have felt lost and insignificant in the face of change. In the heart of prayers perhaps we were seeking some resolution, direction, forgiveness, acceptance, validation, or escape. Soon though, through your faithful dedication to your spiritual path, in the depth of your stillness, out of the         moments of silence, came a truth that transformed you, led you, held you, guided you, loved you. You woke up embracing your soul, remembering the Truth of who you are. It just happens. It is all about remembering that the Divine Intelligence is always flowing ‘in you, as you’ and all around you and in all beings.

This month we have special guest musical artist Gary Lynn Floyd to look forward to. His music uplifts and inspires us with such heartfelt sincerity. He has a true gift. He will be with us on July 27. Don’t miss it!!!!

Stay present!

With love, Rev. Sue MillerBorn

This book is a crash course on the intersection of politics, spirituality, and citizens. Like the three-legged stool, all are required for the United States to fulfill its potential. The author, Stephen Dinan (founder of the Shift Network) offers a highly compelling blueprint for engaging in deep and totally achievable global transformation. He outlines a clear path toward healing the rifts that have separated us and, by appreciating our differences and uniting in common cause, we can help to create a world worth passing on to our children. Join in these deep discussions that promise to be eye-opening on many levels.

Bonnie Lantiegne, our dedicated Children’s Church Director, has asked several times over the summer for volunteers to step forth and be a part of this rewarding leg of ministry to children. So far, no one has answered the call. We would be so grateful for a couple of people willing to commit to one Sunday a month in service to the children. Please Note: We are adding 3.3% on credit card charges to offset the credit card fees imposed on us. Thank you.

We will use the book, Old Friend from Far Away, by Natalie Goldberg for the journey of kick starting the process of writing your memoir. I’ve been reading Natalie’s books on writing for years and this one is exceptional. Here are some thoughts from her introductory pages:

“A memoir is not a chronological pronouncement of the facts of your life. It doesn’t cling to an orderly procession of time and dates. Rather, it encompasses the moment…the moment that mattered.”

“A memoir is structured on the meandering way we remember. It’s an examination of the zigzag nature of how our mind works. For instance, just the thought of Cheerios ricochets back to a broken fence in our backyard one spring morning, then hops over to the first time we stood before a mountain and understood kindness. A smell, a taste―and a whole world flares up. What does our time on this earth add up to?”

Now can you see why this is class is so special?! Natalie recommends an easy-to-write-in notebook and a pen that enables you to write fast. BEFORE EACH CLASS: There are readings and short exercises to complete before each class, including the first class. During class, we will voluntarily share what we’ve written and learn from each other, but keeping personal writings to yourself is respected. During class, we’ll also do some short, five-minute writings that sheE recommends and occasionally she has a test for us as we progress. Questions? Call or email Mary at (530) 347-0996 or revmary49@gmail.com.

Second and Fourth Thursdays of Each Month

6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Meditation Pavilion
Suggested $10 Donation per Person

Join me as we awaken more deeply to life by learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness techniques. Open to vibrant presence as we release what no longer serves us, embrace the present moment through the breath, and raise our vibration by inviting gratitude and love more fully into our lives. The teachings I share are based upon the education I received during a two-year meditation and mindfulness certification training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. These concepts and practices also come from several years of mediation with a local monk, from a broad variety of books, and from an array of spiritual leaders. I believe there is something meaningful and significant to learn from each experience in life and from opening to a variety of methods and belief systems. My desire is to share my enthusiasm for meditation, and for deepening a connection to All. Some of my goals for this group are that together we will create a sense of deep connection and community. That our meditation group will be a place where each participant will feel safe and accepted. Where there is no one right way, and where kindness and openness are always present. We will learn various tools that can assist in living with more peace and presence in our lives. Some topic examples are:

Dealing with difficult emotions
Accessing your Higher Self
Softening around stress
Present Moment Living
Confronting Fear
Finding answers
Mental Clarity
Grounding
Gratitude

Perfect for all levels, chair Yoga is a great way to relax from head to toe without the stress of getting out of your chair. Chair Yoga adapts traditional Yoga poses so they can be done with a chair, making Yoga more accessible for people who cannot stand or lay down for long periods. Regardless of your age or what condition you are in, you can experience the health benefits of Chair Yoga. Please Note: Starting in October, in order to attend Chair Yoga, you must have received the newest Covid-19 Bivalent Booster shot. This is because many of the attendees are elderly and some are already dealing with long-term Covid. Call Claire at 908-337-5312 or email her at cbaymanner@gmail.com with any questions.

HATHA YOGA
With Rev. Sue MillerBorn
Mondays and Wednesdays of Each Week
(September through June)
5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Sanctuary
(except on holidays)
$5 per Person per Evening

Traditional Hatha Yoga is an holistic Yogic path, including disciplines, postures (asana), purification procedures (shatkriya), gestures (mudra), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The Hatha Yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises (postures). It is also recognized as a stress-reducing practice that attempts to balance body and mind. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength, and are practiced to improve the body’s physical health, and to clear the mind in preparation for meditation. We will continue our usual schedule every Monday and Wednesday as we reenter a routine for our wellbeing. Zoom option will still be available. Please feel free to contact Rev. Sue MillerBorn at shantiananda@hotmail.com with any questions.

We now invite Men while still looking to herbs, natural time, and pure elements to remind us of our soul's purpose.
