Mel Jackson has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and has been teaching both public and private classes for decades. He is currently teaching a class to the homeless held at the shelter and guiding them how to express their own interpretations of life through watercolor.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or interested in advancing your watercolor skills, come and join in on the fun. Let your inner wisdom, and creativity, shine through in this unique form of self-expression.

HATHA YOGA

Traditional Hatha Yoga is an holistic Yogic path, including disciplines, postures (asana), purification procedures (shatkriya), gestures (mudra), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The Hatha Yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises (postures). It is also recognized as a stress-reducing practice that attempts to balance body and mind. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength, and are practiced to improve the body’s physical health, and to clear the mind in preparation for meditation. BEFORE EACH CLASS: There are readings and short exercises to complete before each class, including the first class. During class, we will voluntarily share what we have written and learn from each other, but keeping personal writings to yourself is respected. During class, we will also do some short (2 to 3 minute) writing that she recommends and occasionally she has a test for us as we progress. The Center’s Children's Church provides a wonderful program for children (infants to teens) that focuses on enhancing self-esteem, teaching spiritual principles, and awakening creativity. Different groups are designed to meet the changing needs of young people as they mature. In addition, a nursery for those three and under is available at the 10:00 a.m. service. Join me as we awaken more deeply to life by learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness techniques. The teachings I share are based upon the education I received during a two-year meditation and mindfulness certification training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. These concepts and practices also come from several years of mediation with a local monk, from a broad variety of books, and from an array of spiritual leaders. I believe there is something meaningful and significant to learn from each experience in life and from opening to a variety of methods and belief systems. My desire is to share my enthusiasm for meditation, and for deepening a connection to All. Some of my goals for this group are that together we will create a sense of deep connection and community. That our meditation group will be a place where each participant will feel safe and accepted. Where there is no one right way, and where kindness and openness are always present. We bring tools to engage our  power to be the change we want to see in the world.

RPD is Unable to Accept Used Stuffed Animals

Blue Santa has been a tradition for the Redding Police Department for many years and we are excited to help with this program by donating NEW stuffed animals ! The RPD’s Blue Santa Program reaches out to children who may not be receiving gifts this year, finding themselves in the pediatric unit at Mery Medical Center during the holiday, are at home when police respond to a domestic violence call, or have been involved in a car accident. Please bring a NEW stuffed animal to the Center   anytime between Sunday, November 23, to Sunday, December 14, 2025. Let’s fill the front of the Sanctuary with NEW cuddly stuffed animals. We will pour our love into each animal during the Sunday Service before delivering them to RPD. (Kohls often has stuffed animals with an accompanying book for under $10.)

POTLUCK SUNDAY

Did you know the fourth Sunday of each month is Potluck Sunday? What does that mean? It means that you’re invited to bring a friend (or two) with you to the service that Sunday at 10:00 a.m. You’re also invited to bring a potluck dish to share in the Social Hall after the service is over. It’s a wonderful way to widen your circle of friends and let people know about our Center. We hope you and your friends will join us for Potluck Sundays!

You are invited to sing, speak, or play your tune, poetry, stories, songs, or comedy, at the Center’s open mic night. These can be your own compositions or pieces that speak to you. Shems will be your host. Share who you are with the rest of us, knowing you are supported and encouraged to be your true self for the world to see and hear. Come and listen, being open to a completely different point of view, encouraging, with your clapping, the sincerely gifted members of our Redding community. The audience is what makes it risky and real! A chance to be all that we can be! Arrive a few minutes early to sign up for mic time.
