The Power of Eight: Monthly Prayer Groups

The Power of Eight: Monthly Prayer Groups

  • Center for Spiritual Living, Redding (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

As Dr. Ernest Holmes wrote, “A prayer meeting should be the most exciting thing we could do. It should unleash all of the creative ability and imagination we have, because at a prayer meeting where people who believe get together, such a power ought to be such that an angel chorus would sing!” It’s true, there is a Power greater than we are. It is creative and responds to our beliefs, and especially to the intent of a group. Beginning in September, we invite you to join in a monthly prayer group, based on the scientific research in Lynne McTaggart’s book, The Power of Eight. Dr. Holmes knew, and now research proves, that when individuals in a group focus their intention together on a single goal, a powerful, dynamic energy emerges that can heal long-standing conditions, mend fractured relationships, and even rekindle a sense of purpose in one’s life. The monthly prayer groups will meet 11⁄2 to 2 hours, on a date and time to be determined by the host and the facilitator.

There are four opportunities for you to participate:
❖ Host a monthly prayer group of eight in your home (the eight includes yourself and a
facilitator)
❖ Facilitate a monthly group meeting (facilitator training in August)
❖ Coach and support those who facilitate group meetings (training in August)
❖ Sign up to be in a group of your choice (signups in August)
Interested in facilitating one of these powerful groups or being a coach to facilitators?

The TAO of Watercolor: Painting Ornamental Structures
May

to Jun 27

The TAO of Watercolor: Painting Ornamental Structures

This session requires some watercolor experience or the completion of the Beginner’s Sessions. The world is so beautiful and the choice of subject matter so vast, yet it is easy to overlook the seemingly mundane objects, many in our own backyard. Still, other objects require seeing with a more bird’s eye view, a zooming in on the specific, rather than the larger view. Inspiration comes from the Zen monks and others, who teach us that the sacred is in the ordinary, in one’s daily life, in one’s own back yard. “Still life” composition is more than a group of objects set up on a table. It could equally well be a variety of outdoor items, subjects that I refer to as ornamental structures: rusting iron gates, flower carts, lanterns, crumbling stone walls, garden benches, adobe pots, etc. In this session, we will explore ways to describe surface textures to these subjects; experiment with composition; design principles including choice of color, value and pattern. Students are encouraged to work with their own reference material, along with material provided by the instructor. For additional information, contact the teacher at shariwindom@yahoo.com. Students will need sketch and tracing paper along with the basic materials. Wednesdays, May 23 to June 27, 2018. 10:00AM to 12:30PM OR 2:00PM to 4:30PM. In Social Hall. $135 per Person or $23 per Class Meeting. Pre-Registration is Required. Download PDF Flyer

Spoon River Anthology

In Spoon River Anthology, the American poet Edgar Lee Masters created a series of compelling, free-verse monologues in which former citizens of a mythical Midwestern town speak touchingly from the grave of the thwarted hopes and dream of their lives. The aim of the poems is to demystify the rural, small town, American life. In these pages, no less than 214 individual voices are heard — some in no more than a dozen moving lines. Alternately plaintive, anguished, enigmatic, angry and contemptuous, the voices of Spoon River, although distinctively small-town Americans, evoke themes of love and hope, disappointment and despair that are universal in their resonance. The Anthology was the crowning achievement of Masters' career as a poet and a work that would become a landmark of 20th-century American literature. “Can you accept Emerson’s dictum that you are born to be rich or inevitably to grow rich by the use of your faculties? Lack and limitations of any kind are aberrations in an opulent Universe. Any person who is experiencing lack is, in some way, living in opposition to the universal flow.” Author and Unity Minister Eric Butterworth’s wise words set the stage for a journey into true prosperity (going forward hopefully), wealth (well-being) and affluence (an abundant flow). If these definitions are not familiar to you, and if you are ready and willing to see real change in your life, join Diana Johnson for this rich exploration of the laws that govern economics and abundance in all of its forms. Discover your Divine Inheritance in Spiritual Economics. Feel free to call Diana at 356-1227 for more information. Tuesdays, March 20 to May 15, 2018 6:00 to 9:00 PM, in the LightSource Village (cottage) or Wednesdays, March 21 to May 16, 2018 2:00 to 4:30 PM, in the LightSource Village (cottage) $105 by 3/11; $125 Thereafter + Optional $20 Certificate Fee.
