MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Enriching the Soil of Our Consciousness

We know that right now we are creating our experiences for tomorrow. “What we dwell upon we become.” You have heard that before yet most of us continue to ruminate on things that are out of our control, as if worrying and complaining are going to make the difference in our temperament much less the outcome of things unfolding. We sink deeper into the quicksand of consciousness that just keeps mirroring back to us what we are stuck in. We know we can do better.

“We know the background of human thought is, to a great extent, one of negation, a denial of a harmonious and spiritual Universe; consequently, our outlook on life must be transformed by the renewing of the mind, and even when the results are not immediately forth-coming, we must still maintain a calm serenity of thought. We must relight the torch of our imagination by ‘fire caught from heaven.’ We must remain faithful to this vision, for a realization of the Presence of God is the secret power of our work.” --Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind, page 218.3

So, we choose differently. We embrace a sense of renewal of our minds each day upon awakening. Then throughout the day as we live it, we practice staying present and aware. We practice gratitude for our successes at the end of the day and rewrite our mental script before we fall asleep for an even better day tomorrow. We must also give ourselves space for having human reactions to what is important to us and to ‘forgive ourselves and those who trespass against us’. Does that sound familiar? The soil of our consciousness is ripe for cultivating and the planting of new seeds of awareness. More and more it is a gift to surrender to what is and try to see it with new eyes that aren’t trying to argue with it or assign meaning or judgment. Can we see without looking for anything? Imagine that. I write it but I find it challenging to see clearly without my mind or emotions tangling “what is” into a story that I then might take offense at. We want everything to have ‘meaning’. But what is planted in the soil of our mind are all our biases, our perceptions, our ‘rules’, our values, our morals, our spiritual principles, our misunderstandings, our history, our feelings, our own way, etc., etc., etc. To see clearly, we are invited to soften our gaze and go within as we step into our experiences. We ask ourselves questions instead of making declarations of resistance. It’s a way into our world that is led by loving awareness.

We have many opportunities to explore our way this month. We look forward to our Easter Celebration together on Sunday, April 20! Bring your family and friends. The HeartSangha Choir has been preparing for months. The last weekend of the month we have an Earth Day/Sacred Sisters Women’s Day planned on Saturday, April 26, hosted by Rev. Sue MillerBorn and Rev. Dr. Andrea Asebedo. On Sunday, April 27, Dr. Andrea is speaking and hosting a workshop for us after the service!

Happy Spring, everyone!

HATHA YOGA
With Rev. Sue MillerBorn
Mondays and Wednesdays of Each Week
(September through June)
5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Sanctuary
(except on holidays)
$5 per Person per Evening

Traditional Hatha Yoga is an holistic Yogic path, including disciplines, postures (asana), purification procedures (shatkriya), gestures (mudra), breathing (pranayama), and meditation. The Hatha Yoga predominantly practiced in the West consists of mostly asanas understood as physical exercises (postures). It is also recognized as a stress-reducing practice that attempts to balance body and mind. Asanas teach poise, balance, and strength, and are practiced to improve the body’s physical health, and to clear the mind in preparation for meditation. We will continue our usual schedule every Monday and Wednesday as we reenter a routine for our wellbeing. Zoom option will still be available. Please feel free to contact Rev. Sue MillerBorn at shantiananda@hotmail.com with any questions.

MINISTER’S MESSAGE
Being Heard!

This month we take a careful look at many areas in life that cause us to pull back and stifle our voice. It is our human nature to react to that which causes us distress. It is our spiritual nature that drives us to rise above and know our ‘Self’ in the midst of it all. Self-advocacy and knowing our boundaries are important to our personal and collective well-being. We have a right to be seen, to be heard, and to be here. Sometimes, when that is challenged, we tend to withdraw. Yet, inside of our hearts, we long for reconciliation and inner peace in every relationship, however that shows up. Our personal empowerment through self-reflection and application of spiritual principles transforms conflicts within ourselves and with others. Just tuning into the concept of kindness can soften our hearts. Ultimately, we are longing for Love to lead the way. Healthy connections to family, friends, or ‘other’ asks us to face the barriers and liberate our resistance for the greater good of all. Join us on the self-discovery through the messages and music this month to find the healthy and Spirit led way to “raise your voice”. Together, we grow stronger.

This month also starts off with two very important FUNdraisers for our Center! The “Redding Holistic Healing and Spiritual Arts Fair” on Saturday, May 3, will bring many lovely people from the greater Redding community to our Center. We are excited to host the event under the guidance of Akaysha Avila-Beech and Dawn Michaela! We are eager to meet the vendors and discover through a selection of artists/healers in small break-out sessions, a more in depth understanding of their art and healing modalities. $5.00 entrance fee is all. So much joy and discovery are waiting for us. Christy Carr, RScP, and friends are hosting the Chili Cook-Off on that same day to provide a fun event for all to participate in. Contact Christy at (530) 561-0925 if you can help out and serve or want to submit your favorite Chili to be considered as the prize recipe of the day. $7.00 is the cost to enjoy the lunch during the Spiritual Arts Fair.

Join us…we are here for you.

With Love,

REALITY RETREAT
Retreating Back to the Reality of Consciousness
With Nithya Ram
Thursdays Each Week
(except on holidays)
9:00 to 9:45 a.m. in the Meditation Pavilion
Donations Gratefully Accepted

In Sanatana Dharma, the ideal is always to be one with consciousness. The journey and purpose of life is to realize this ideal, through inner transformation, which is only possible through spiritual awareness. Our Master, His Holiness Sri Muralidhara Swamiji says, “Joy and sorrow are the only two known states of mind, as far as man is concerned. Divinity is to get past this dual state and be in a constant state of bliss”. Reality Retreat Meditation is one where we aim to retreat back to the Reality (consciousness) through the constant repetition of the Divine Mahamantra – the sound from the Happiness plane. The unique changing pattern of the Mahamantra (Greatest Mantra), 6-3-2 cycle, naturally takes our vision inward. Constant and dedicated repetition guarantees mental strength, proven to lead to happiness. This meditation strives to inspire all in the path of inner excellence, and to realize that our happiness is in our control. It helps to improve attention, relieve stress, bring positivity, and face challenges with poise.

Looking for a practical guide to the fulfillment of your dreams? Based on seven natural laws which govern all of creation, this book shatters the myth that success is the result of hard work, exacting plans, or driving ambition. In The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra distills the essence of his teachings into simple, yet powerful principles that can easily be applied to create success in all areas of your life by offering a life-altering perspective on attaining success: once we understand our true nature and learn to live in harmony with these natural laws, well-being, good health, fulfilling relationships, energy, enthusiasm for life, and material abundance can be achieved. Simple yet profound, the book’s timeless wisdom and practical steps can be applied with surprisingly quick results. In the words of Deepak Chopra, “When this knowledge is incorporated in your consciousness, it will give you the ability to create unlimited wealth with effortless ease, and to experience success in every endeavor.” This book is available in the Awareness Bookstore.

Since its debut thirty years ago, this favorite by one of the world’s most beloved grief counselors has found a place in the homes and hearts of hundreds of thousands of mourners across the globe. Filled with compassion and hope, Understanding Your Grief helps you understand and befriend your painful, complex thoughts and feelings after the death of someone loved . Befriending grief may sound counterintuitive, but actually, your grief is your love for the person who died in a different form, and like that love, it’s also natural and necessary. Perhaps above all, Understanding Your Grief is practical. It’s built on Dr. Wolfelt’s Ten Touchstones, which are basic principles to learn and actions to take to help you engage with your grief and create momentum toward healing. This second edition maintains the content of the first edition and builds on it by adding concise wisdom on new topics such as the myth of closure, complicated and traumatic grief, grief overload, unmourned grief, loneliness, the power of ritual, and more. Excellent as an empathetic handbook for anyone in mourning as well as a text for support groups, Understanding Your Grief pairs with a guided journal. The book and journal are available in the Awareness Bookstore. Please Note: this class is specifically for those who’ve lost a partner or a spouse. Thank you.

Revelations from the Z’s about why lies ahead. Humanity is facing an unprecedented phase of evolution, planetary revolution, and the acceleration of time. More and more people are seeking guidance as they wake up to a connection with something far bigger than what they were taught about human life. Channeled by Lee Harris and prompted by Regina Meredith’s incisive questions, Lee’s guides, the Z’s, expose the lies promulgated throughout history and explain the past and the future. The Z’s remind us that everyone on Earth in being affected by waves of higher consciousness now flooding the planet. Meant to be experienced, absorbed, and understood, the message from the Z’s is unequivocal: creating a new world is your job. The Future Human tells you why and how.

AWAKENING TO ONENESS WITH LIFE MEDITATION
With Jill Matthews
Second and Fourth Thursdays of Each Month
(except on holidays)
6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in the Meditation Pavilion
Suggested $10 Donation per Person

Join me as we awaken more deeply to life by learning and practicing meditation and mindfulness techniques. Open to vibrant presence as we release what no longer serves us, embrace the present moment through the breath, and raise our vibration by inviting gratitude and love more fully into our lives. The teachings I share are based upon the education I received during a two-year meditation and mindfulness certification training led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. These concepts and practices also come from several years of mediation with a local monk, from a broad variety of books, and from an array of spiritual leaders. I believe there is something meaningful and significant to learn from each experience in life and from opening to a variety of methods and belief systems. My desire is to share my enthusiasm for meditation, and for deepening a connection to All. Some of my goals for this group are that together we will create a sense of deep connection and community. That our meditation group will be a place where each participant will feel safe and accepted. Where there is no one right way, and where kindness and openness are always present. We will learn various tools that can assist in living with more peace and presence in our lives. Some topic examples are:

Dealing with difficult emotions
Accessing your Higher Self
Softening around stress
Present Moment Living
Confronting Fear
Finding answers
Mental Clarity
Grounding
Gratitude

For thousands of years, humans have used dance as a spiritual practice to connect with God, with the earth, and with themselves. The beat of the drums, the rhythm of breath, the sway of the body – this is ancient medicine. Dance Church is silent disco style ecstatic dance designed to reconnect you to this practice, to move not for performance but for healing, for release, and for prayer. The music will be your guide and you shake off the weight of the world, breathe deeply, expand your awareness, and surrender to the rhythm that has always lived within you. Whether you sway with your eyes closed, stomp and spin, or simply stand with a hand on your heart, there is no wrong way – only your way. No dance experience needed. Ages 12+. Bring water, and wear clothes you can move in.
